Ingredients & substitution suggestions

Ingredients & substitution suggestions

Here’s what you’re gonna need to whip up this recipe:

Instant coffee granules : for a coffee kick, go with instant espresso for max flavor.

Whiskey : I went with Jameson Irish whiskey, but use whatever you like best. Tons of people have tried other liquors and loved the switch-up. Check out “Readers’ Tips and Suggestions” below for ideas.

Heavy cream : or half & half. You can also mix half a cup of whole milk with half a cup of heavy whipping cream. Just don’t use straight milk, or it won’t be creamy enough.

Sweetened condensed milk

Chocolate syrup : or any chocolate topping (I grabbed Hershey’s).

Pure vanilla extract : or try out other flavors like almond, peppermint, or orange. Want to go wild? Toss in some cinnamon or pumpkin spice.

How to make Homemade Baileys Irish Cream Recipe

This homemade Baileys recipe comes together in less than a minute with just a blender!

Just toss in the cream or half-and-half, sweetened condensed milk, instant coffee, chocolate syrup, and vanilla. Blend on low for 30 seconds, then pour in the Irish whiskey and give it a few more seconds. That’s it—done!

Pro Tip →

High-powered blenders can mess with the mix and make it curdle while whipping the cream. To keep it smooth, stick to a low speed and blend just until it’s all combined. If it does curdle, no worries—just strain it through a sieve and skim any extra off the top with a spoon.

Recipe variations

Feel free to play around with the ingredient ratios to suit your taste!

Want more chocolate? Pour it in. Like it a bit stronger? Add more whiskey. Not into coffee? Swap it out for raspberry liqueur or salted caramel. It’s totally up to you!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (235 ml) heavy cream or half-and-half

  • 1 can (14 oz. / 395 ml) sweetened condensed milk

  • 3 tablespoons chocolate syrup

  • 1 teaspoon instant coffee granules

  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

  • 1⅔ cups (400 ml) Irish whiskey (I used Jameson)

Directions

  • Combine the cream, sweetened condensed milk, instant coffee granules, chocolate syrup, and vanilla in the blender. Mix on low speed for 30 seconds.
  • While the blender is running on low, slowly add the whiskey and blend for a few more seconds.
  • Transfer the Baileys Irish cream into sterilized glass bottles with tight-fitting lids.
  • Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 months.
  • Shake well before using.
  • Enjoy!

Notes

  • Curdling: Blending at high speed can whip and curdle the mixture. We just want to combine the ingredients, so keep the blender on low speed.
If it does curdle, simply strain the liquid through a sieve and use a spoon to remove any excess from the top.
